One World One Heart 2011

welcome!
i am laura comito, 2nd generation Italian American living in the wilds of western Iowa, USA. i've been an artist all my life and enjoy mixed media collage- i like to alter stuff. i'd rather go junking than shopping for clothes. i also design and create my own jewelry which feeds into my passion for vintage jewelry and i can't help but incorporate rhinestones into most of my work. i love to travel and actually made it to the village where my grandparents were born in Italy!  oh yeah- i also live with depression everyday.

thanks for stopping by and taking a peek around. leave a comment too! as a token of my appreciation i am giving away two items hand made by me to two lucky people.

page 1
item number one is a copy of the book I published called "Outside the Lines"
my story of living and coping with depression through art and meds. all of the artwork is a series of collages from art papers, ephemera, bits and pieces of found objects stickers, rubber stamps and doodles.

item number 2 is a wall collage made from hand made papers, art papers, fibers, ribbon flowers and sculpy clay.

it's been nice getting to know you!
laura

i also write a second blog so please stop by and look around there too! Just click on the link and it will magically take you to my other place!               artworks and beads

~JUST ADDED~

if you are a cardmaker i was just gifted with an entire box of envelopes of many different sizes and colors. i would be more than happy to send you an assortment of 24 envelopes. in your message make sure you put ENVELOPES in caps- so i SEE it :) and i will contact you for your snail mail address. these are free- paying it forward....

hello Laura :)
thank you for coming over to my blog and inviting me to come along to yours! i'm sorry you have to cope with so much and i'm glad that art is helping you in so many ways! art has always been therapeutic for me too ... when i had my new preemie home recently, i felt stretched and yes, depressed. but when i had time in between feeds and dirty diapers, i would escape to my art, if only a little while ... it helped tremendously. i poured all the nagging energies into my pieces, that's how i know how to express myself.

it would be an honor to win one of your beautiful and meaningful gifts :)
HUGS!!

Hola Laura, thanks for coming over to my place and leaving a comment. I went to your other blog first, looking for the OWOH post, however, I fell in love with your stuff...fabulous!!

Depression sucks! I too suffer from it, but had to go off the antidepressants due to horrible reactions to them, so I'm free-flying for now. My bouts are a crippling when I'm hit with them...I'm rendered almost crippled from nausea, dizziness and just over-all puky feeling...can't even hold down water let alone anything solid!! Hell, I should be a skinny-whinnie, but nah!! LOL I guess I make up for it when I'm not having any episodes!!

Anyway, thanks again for coming over and leaving me your comment...also, nice meeting you.

Your book sounds amazing and I like your work on the collage as well....and by the way I do in fact make cards and would love the chance to have some of your ENVELOPES! ;)

Thanks for being part of this great event. I hope the experience has been grand (and that you'll come out of it with many new friends and inspirations!)

Loving this OWOH and meeting everyone. I'm a third gen Italian American. I haven't been able to go to Italy yet but am working towards it. We sound a lot alike I have to exercise to keep my mood stable and don't do it as often as I should. Hence my big butt. LOL Come by for a visit www.beckoningoflife.blogspot.com Leslie

Hello Laura, I'm so pleased to meet you and see your beautiful artwork. My mother lived with depression, so I feel your pain.
